"Shavim Association"

Vocational rehabilitation association for people with mental disabilities

The Shavim Association was founded in 1985 by former members of the Ministry of Health - senior managers and key figures in the rehabilitation system - people whose only desire is to do good for others. As those who specialize in vocational rehabilitation for people with mental disabilities (by virtue of their positions in the Ministry of Health), it was only natural for them to come together and establish the Shvim Association for Vocational Rehabilitation, whose goal is to:
To provide rehabilitation services , guidance and vocational training that result in employment placement with the aim of enabling the individual to live a full and meaningful life.

Three vocational rehabilitation programs
To bring about optimal professional matching and a wide range of employment solutions for people dealing with mental disabilities, the association operates in three systems:
-
A system of sheltered workshops nationwide
-
A national system of accompanying people with mental disabilities in the competitive labor market
-
A system of Equal Plus orientation centers.
The importance of the occupational framework for mentally ill people
The service is implemented by dozens of occupational therapists, social workers, psychotherapists, employment specialists and rehabilitation counselors. All of them, without exception, act according to a clear insight: employment is much more than a livelihood. An employment framework for mentally ill people is the golden path to returning to a normative life, to expanding social circles, to an elevated self-image and confidence, to uprightness and independence. And to achieve these, one must progress step by step, just like climbing a high ladder that leads to the competitive labor market. Here are some of the stages of the process:
Diagnosis and identification of occupational abilities and aspirations >> Building a personal vocational rehabilitation plan >> Training to acquire employment skills >> Completion of education >> Development of occupational projects and employer outreach >> Placement and adaptation to an employment framework...
